This site, authorthettajames.com, is mine, Thetta James. This page says what information the site collects, why, and what I do with it. I keep it short because I’d rather you read it.
What I collect
- The Reading Circle. Your first name and email address, when you sign up. You confirm by clicking a link in the first email (double opt-in), so nobody can sign you up without you.
- Messages. Your name, email address and whatever you write on the contact page, so I can answer.
- Orders. When the shop is open: your name, shipping address, email, and what you bought. Your card details go straight to the payment company and never touch this site.
- Visits. The site keeps the ordinary server records every website keeps (which pages were asked for, from roughly where, by which browser). I don’t use advertising trackers or tools that follow you around the web.
What I do with it
I send you what you asked for: release news if you joined the Reading Circle, an answer if you wrote, your order if you bought something. I don’t sell your details, rent them, or hand them to anyone for their own marketing. Ever.
Who helps me
A few companies handle parts of this site for me and see only what they need: the email delivery service that sends the Reading Circle emails (SMTP2GO); the payment companies at checkout (Stripe and PayPal); the print company for shirts and mugs (Printful, which gets your shipping address to print and ship your order); the security service that keeps the site safe (WPMU DEV’s Defender, which records visitors’ IP addresses in its security logs to block attacks); and the hosting company that keeps the site online (InstaWP, managed by MyIndieAuthorSite).
Cookies
The site sets the cookies it needs to work (keeping your cart, remembering you’re logged in if you have an account). It does not set advertising cookies. If a cookie banner ever appears here, it’s because a new tool needed one, and the banner will say so.
Your choices
- Leave the Reading Circle any time with the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email.
- Ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Write to me from the contact page and I’ll do it within 30 days.
If you live in the EU or UK: I use your details to send the emails you asked for (your consent, which you can withdraw any time) and to fill your orders (to carry out our contract). You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
My books are written for adults. This site is not meant for anyone under 18, and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If I change this page, the date at the top changes with it. Anything that matters, I’ll say in a Reading Circle email too.
